I have explored what science can tell us, and I have explored the authenticity of the Gospel accounts of Jesus Christ, and I conclude that both are important and properly understood provide a consistent and satisfying worldview.  I have concluded that the important thing is to embrace and understand as much as I can of the universe, and to commit myself to the person and teaching of Jesus Christ.  I have chosen the term Minimalist Christianity to represent the focus on the essentials of what it means to be a Christian.  

Much of this blog gives insight into the essentials of Minimalist Christianity, but here are a few starters:

• A Minimalist Christian believes that there is a creative essence that is supreme goodness, love and power, that we call God, and that God is fully represented in the person of Jesus Christ.  To know Christ is to know God, is to know supreme goodness, love and power.
• A Minimalist Christian is committed to following Jesus Christ, but will comfortably be ‘agnostic’ about irrelevant/distracting issues (was Jonah really swallowed by a whale, or is the story a parable?).  The touchstone of what is important is if it helps to ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’
• A Minimalist Christian wants to be the best that he/she can be, and wishes that for everyone else too.  He/she recognises that he/she, and everyone else, will fail sometimes and make mistakes but understands that failure is forgiven by grace, if the one who fails really wants to be forgiven.  A Minimalist Christian forgives others, and believes the best of others – never ascribing to malice what can be put down to incompetence.
• A Minimalist Christian does not judge others who choose to believe different things, but will try to help all to find the true Jesus Christ.
• A Minimalist Christian accepts that they may be wrong in their beliefs, but tries to live them out with integrity. (see The Author’s Fear)
